Targa NZ — Terms & Conditions
Targa New Zealand operates several event formats. Each format has its own official Terms & Conditions document. Before entering, please read the document for the event you’re participating in and make sure you and your vehicle meet all requirements.
Which document do I need?
- Targa Competition: Closed-road special stages with full competition regulations, licensing, timing, penalties, safety and service crew rules.
- Retro Targa: Minimum stage-time format with a points allocation system, designed to encourage classic and older vehicles with lower competitive risk.
- Targa Tour: Non-competition paced touring over the same roads, suitable for road-registered vehicles under instructor guidance.
- Targa Time Trial: Average-speed precision driving and time-keeping on closed-road stages in road-registered vehicles.
What you are agreeing to
- You have read the applicable Terms & Conditions for your chosen event and agree to comply with them.
- You will ensure your vehicle, safety equipment and crew meet the stated standards at all times, including documentation and scrutineering.
- You understand the risks involved in closed-road motorsport activities and accept the acknowledgements, indemnities and insurance conditions set out in the document.
- You accept that event officials may apply penalties, exclude entries, or decline participation where requirements are not met.
Key points (summary only)
- Eligibility & Licensing: Driver licensing, competition licences (if required), and age/vehicle eligibility rules must be satisfied.
- Safety: Safety gear (e.g., helmets, suits, harnesses, extinguishers, roll-over protection where required) must comply with the standards referenced in the document.
- Vehicle Standards: Roadworthiness/technical regulations and pre-event scrutineering apply. Non-compliance may prevent you from starting or continuing.
- Conduct: You must follow officials’ instructions, road rules where applicable, speed restrictions, service rules and environmental guidelines.
- Timing & Penalties: Rules differ by format (Competition, Retro, Tour, Time Trial). Refer to the relevant PDF for penalties and results calculation.
- Entries & Payments: Entry process, fees, due dates and any bond/insurance arrangements are detailed in the PDF.
- Cancellation/Refunds: Postponement, cancellation and refund policies are set out in the document and may be subject to third-party requirements.
- Media & Privacy: Events may be photographed/filmed. By entering you consent to reasonable use of your image/vehicle as described in the PDF.
